After successful completion of an arson background check, you will be asked to come for interview with the Board of Directors. After the interview your applications will be presented to Fire Department body for approval for probationary membership. The applicant is then required for approval for probationary status by the board of Fire Commissioners. Shortly after that the applicant will be contacted by one of our line officers to get started. You will need to complete a psychical for interior firefighter and be fit tested to wear SCBA. All new members start as probationary firefighters. The probationary period lasts 6 months. During this time the probationary firefighter must attend meetings and drills and must successfully complete all training requirements in order to meet the minimum qualifications as an interior firefighter. All training and equipment is provided for you free of charge. Most training is hands-on, however a written and practical exam must be completed to show competency in all subjects covered throughout your training.
Any further questions please feel free to stop in any Tuesday at 9 am or 7pm and speak with a line officer.
